I’ve been thinking about how hard it is to wait; how hard to hold on to anticipation and longing and desire. In such a state, I do what I normally do: look for the words of others to bring me perspective and (hopefully) hope; to enable me to continue waiting:
You must know that in any moment a decision you make can change the course of your life forever: the very next person you stand behind in line or sit next to on an airplane, the very next phone call you make or receive, the very next movie you see or book you read or page you turn could be the one single thing that causes the floodgates to open, and all of the things that you’ve been waiting for to fall into place.
When dreaming, I’m guided through another world, time and time again. At sunrise I fight to stay asleep, ’cause I don’t want to leave the comfort of this place, ’cause there’s a hunger, a longing to escape, from the life I live when I’m awake.
The desire is thy prayer; and if thy desire is without ceasing, thy prayer will also be without ceasing. The continuance of your longing is the continuance of your prayer. (Saint Augustine)
Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything. (Napoleon Hill)
Passion, it lies in all of sleeping…waiting…and though unwanted…unbidden…it will stir…open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us…guides us…passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love…the clarity of hatred…and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we’d know some kind of peace…but we would be hollow…Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead. (Joss Whedon)
