Yesterday someone asked me why my blogsite was named “Truth-Telling.” As I answered I realized that I am still really committed to and in-sync with this name, this way of being. I’m committed to truth-telling by and to myself. I’m committed to inviting it in others. It’s a good thing.
And I’m not alone. Abby, my 10-year-old, had to pick a historical figure that she wanted to do a report on, dress up as, and then enact. She chose Elizabeth Cady Stanton – an incredible truth-teller. Look at this quote:
The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.
I love that Abby chose this woman. I love that somehow, in her own way, she gets that Elizabeth Cady Stanton is a truth-teller. I love that Abby is a truth-teller (and getting better at it despite the risks and dangers therein). I love that her sister Emma is a truth-teller (and getting better at it despite the risks and dangers therein). I love that they continue to encourage me to be a truth-teller (also getting better at it despite the risks and dangers therein).
