Ready or Not [or: why it doesn't really matter]

She lies in wait, crouching, prowling, shoring up her strength. She does not feel either fearful hesitation or impatience. Her experience of time is grounded, earthy, preternatural. And as she waits, she does not hide. She appears in unedited thoughts; in moments of crystallized truth; in raw, spoken words; in named, articulated desire; in external actions consistent with internal truths. Neither others, convention, culture, nor even her own fears and insecurities restrain her. She will not be held back, silenced, edited, or caged.

Sure and certain, this instinctive knowing is not hers to control, wield, withhold or bring forth. She is ready. Even when she’s not.

The real miracle of…the Wild Woman is that we all begin the process before we are ready, before we are strong enough, before we know enough; we begin a dialogue with thoughts and feelings that both tickle and thunder within us. We respond before we know how to speak the language, before we know all the answers, and before we know exactly to whom we are speaking.

I am ready. Even when I’m not.

So are you.

Though it may feel counterintuitive to be this wild, untamed self, it’s actually your truest, most instinctual experience of being. Despite all efforts to talk yourself out of it, to second-guess your every emotion, to become consumed with “what-ifs” and “if-onlys,” it’s only a matter of time. You lie in wait, crouching, prowling, shoring up your strength.

You can trust yourself. You will know when it’s time. You will let go, rise up, speak out, and soar in glorious, glistening beauty and power. Wild and extravagant. I promise.

[And not alone. My 4-week live online course, begins July 12.]

[And not surprisingly, the quote above from Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women Who Run with the Wolves – my Sacred Writ.)
