RENEGADING.
“If you could change one thing about your appearance, what would it be?” I innocently asked my teenage daughter in an effort to prompt conversation.
She looked at me incredulously and said, “Seriously, mom? Just one thing?”
For all my talk of empowered feminism, truthtelling, even Renegading, it hasn’t permeated her. Who am I kidding? It hasn’t even permeated me…at least not completely or consistently…

STORYTELLING.
Under the Gum Tree just released the premier issue of a gorgeous and profoundly-rich online journal (also available in print).
Here’s how they describe what they are all about: …all you need to know is that Under the Gum Tree is a place for sharing stories without shame. We’re tired of the same old game of putting on a show. Living a story and telling it without shame is about yanking down that curtain that so many of us hide behind. You know, all our shit happens back stage, and once we are primped and composed, we enter the stage and make a beautiful — contrived — performance.
Given the above, you can only imagine how thrilled I was when asked to contribute to this first issue. I set about the process of sharing one of my stories without shame. WAY easier said than done.

WRITING.

Undoing in many ways…but good. Shame is a nearly-overwhelming emotion for me just today (long story) and so remembering the idea of “stories without shame” invites me to new spaces in regards to my own. Thank you.
