NaBloPoMo Begins…Hope rises from the ashes

by Ronna Detrick on November 1, 2009

nablopomoThis is national blog posting month. Who knew such a thing existed? And who can resist the challenge:

Post every day for a month. That’s all you have to do!

OK…I suppose for some, this is a HUGE-ASS challenge. But for me? Piece of cake. As you’re aware if you read my posts very often, you know there are lots of them. I never seem to run out of things to say (as those who have ongoing conversation with me can attest!).  But here is the challenge I’m adding into the mix for myself:

Use your truest, deep-down voice, Ronna.
The one that you often sublimate for a different one,
a more comfortable one,
a less spiritual one,
one that is less than you.

This isn’t a new voice for me. It’s one I know well. It’s one I have set to the side. Truth-be-told, it’s one I’m afraid to use. But…upon LOTS of processing about that these past couple weeks (and profoundly moving conversations with others), I realize that I don’t need to be afraid, shouldn’t be afraid, and need to conquer whatever it is that keeps me from speaking me.

So this morning: post #1 of 30. A beginning. A start. A step into familiar waters that often feel torrid and cold; waters that have carried me – and will again – safely to shores for which I long, desire, and hope.

Hope …
is the singular gift
we cannot destroy in ourselves,
the argument that refutes death,
the genius that invents the future,
all we know of God.
Lisel Mueller, from her poem “Hope”

All I know of God is hope. It haunts me. It saves me. It invites me. It defines me. It sticks to me. It defies my own attempts to thwart it.

30 days of blogging. 30 days of blogging with my deep-down, core-of-my-heart voice. 30 days of blogging about hope.

Having hope will give you courage.
You will be protected and will rest in safety.
(Job 11:18, NLT)

The phoenix hope, can wing her way through the desert skies, and still defying fortune’s spite; revive from ashes and rise.
Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra

Nanowrimo (writing a novel in a month) and now this too? Whew! That’s gonna be a lot of writing for me.

Thanks for starting with hope. It’s a great beginning.

Awesome stuff. I am looking forward to this because when one of us speaks in truth and courage we all find a little bit more access to our own truth and courage.
