My sister arrives tomorrow. I haven’t seen her since last October and I’ve missed her. She’ll be here for nearly five days – along with her husband and my nephews. Regardless of the issues present in family, and which often manifest themselves even more profoundly when family is actually together, I’m ready for some together-time with her. It’s been too long.
8 years my junior, there have been few times in my life when I’ve been aware of that gap. She’s been my playmate, my companion, my confidante, my maid of honor, my best friend. And what’s even better: I’m all those things for her.
There are many amazing women in my life and she is choice among them. What a gift – to have many “sisters” who can be playmates, companions, confidantes, and friends. And what a gift to have a blood sister who provides me an even deeper connection and bond. I shall celebrate her presence and our friendship these next five days. Humbling. Awesome. Amazing. Fun. Fabulous. Meaningful. Rich. Beautiful.
