My Body Talks

by Ronna Detrick on November 9, 2009

bodytalkI’m in Cleveland, Ohio right now, participating in some ongoing training – sitting with some amazing entrepreneurial women and grateful for the both the energy I receive from them and the awareness that I have much to give.

This morning we were given a huge gift: 35 minutes with a BodyTalk practitioner. Because I can’t explain what that is as well as her own promotional materials, here’s the gist:

During a BodyTalk session, the practitioner facilitates communication with the Innate Wisdom of the body by using neuromuscular biofeedback. After asking Innate a series of yes or no questions, the client’s own body wisdom leads the practitioner to locate the imbalances within the body that are a priority, or are not communicating correctly and are out of balance with the rest of the body.

Next, the practitioner holds thee areas that have been highlighted by the testing procedure and taps gently on the head and the sternum. By tapping on the head, the brain becomes aware of and repairs the communication. Tapping on the sternum, or heart, ensures that the new information is stored throughout the body.

Now this may seem a little woo-woo to you. I admit, it did to me to begin with, but…I’m now a HUGE believer. In a half hour here is what this woman told me.

You have a lot of worry over thinking. (No kidding!!!)

Something occurred at age 5 that began a pattern of this worry; managing for others’ experience and expectation of you.

Your body wants care and balance in the area of your diaphragm – the center of your self-expression. You definitely want to express yourself. You have something you want to say.

What you want to say, what is important for you to self-express, is all about FAITH.

Is it necessary for me to tell you what it meant to hear a total stranger tell me about my own desire for self-expression – in the realm of faith? Hopefully you can begin to imagine the profound impact of such. Here’s my take-away:

Somehow, even if I am struggling for the words, the praxis, the embodiment and manifestation of who I am, what I have to say, what I am about, my body is not. MY BODY IS TALKING. IT’S TELLING MY STORY. IT’S TALKING ABOUT FAITH. Apparently I cannot be silenced.

I’m stoked. I’m on it. This is definitely where I belong: self-expression and faith. DEFINITELY not silent!!!

Body Talk: I’m sold.

That is wonderful. As a yogini I’ve learned the truth of the mind, soul, body connection and am much less suspicious of the woo-woo stuff as a result. Our bodies really do know.

So this blog is a way for you to honour this deep need to speak about faith. How perfect!
