As a surprise for Emma, my nearly 11-year-old daughter, I was able to arrange the amazing opportunity of flying somewhere for lunch. We took off from the Tacoma Narrows Airport and about 45 minutes later landed in Port Townsend. On the way we saw beautiful scenery, lavish blues and greens, amazing mountains. And…we both agreed we liked it better on the ground.
How great to be able to experience this with Emma today: something that people rarely get to do. And how great to be able to acknowledge together that we were both a bit scared. I will hope for much more of the same as birthdays beyond 11 continue – opportunities to experience new things together and opportunities to express our truest feelings. That’s better than any in-flight scenery can offer – and with far less queasiness!
