I have spent nearly every moment of the past two days (and some of their nights) downloading, converting, and organizing music on my three cell phones. At first glance, once wouldn’t think this to be all that time-consuming. I beg to differ! The girls’ phones don’t recognize iTunes so I had to download (and pay for) software that would change them to recognizable files. If that wasn’t enough, we then had to create brand new playlists in brand new Verizon-based software that enabled the music to show up on the phones themselves. Crazy!
And then there was my new phone – a Blackberry. Thankfully, it’s a bit more sophisticated (or less proprietary) and actually let me move iTunes over…but not all of them. Again with the conversion software, new playlists, and hours of time waiting for all of this to switch over. Crazy and crazy-making!!
Here’s the funny thing: we’ve had these tunes all along – on our iPods, on CDs, on computer(s) – but somehow, now that they are on our phones (complete with high-capacity memory cards and earphones – also purchased) we can’t get enough of the music. Imagine this: at one point today all three of us were moving through the house with our headphones on, singing separate songs, totally lost in our own heads and melodies. We had to practically yell to get each others’ attention. Crazy!
I’m not advocating for this lifestyle as a model for healthy interaction among family members, but believe me, with the kind of cat-fights that can occur in this house of three females, today has been a lovely respite. We’re bopping around, dancing, and singing obnoxiously – all to our own stuff – and laughing – lots – at one another. All-in-all (once the downloading finished up) it’s been a pretty good day.
I found a quote tonight that seems to apply:
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music. (Angela Monet).
That may be…but when we’re dancing and none of us can hear the others’ music, I think we’re just three women who love tunes, love to dance, and love each other. Not crazy. Just good.
