Beauty and grace command the world…even on a Monday.

I came across a blog post today offering random quotes about Monday:

Monday is an awful way to spend 1/7th of your life.

Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays…

Monday is the root of all evil.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Mondays last 50% longer than the other days [each].

According to a recent study we conducted, Monday has been voted “Least Popular Day of the Week” 176 years in a row.

I felt all of these and more today. It has seemed as though I’ve been about 4-5 hours behind with no hidden store of energy in site to get me back on track. I have been tired, sluggish, disjointed, scattered, and truth-be-told, even a bit short-tempered. Beauty and grace have felt in short supply.

Park Benjamin is the one who said, “Beauty and grace command the world.” Not quite as easy for me to believe today, but when I take enough time to reflect, I have to admit I did indeed see both:

Beauty and grace in the kindness extended to me by others – despite my mood and short attention span.

Beauty and grace even in my own ability to be kind to myself – despite my high proclivity for self-contempt.

Beauty and grace in frequent hugs and “I love you’s” from Emma and Abby.

Beauty and grace in the opportunity for new business relationships.

Beauty and grace in the unbridled excitement of our dog when picked up from the groomer.

Beauty and grace in a series of texts from a friend.

Beauty and grace in the setting sun on my deck tonight.

OK. I’ll give in: beauty and grace command the world…even on a Monday.
