A Strong Woman

strongwomanWhat does it look like for a strong woman to live with ambiguity? It’s not easy, that’s for sure. Despite our claims that we understand the world is not black and white, that nothing is simple, that life is complex, truth-be-told we still want all these things.

Being a strong woman, at least in part, means that we are called to live with ambiguity; that we use our capacity, our wisdom, our bandwidth, our emotion, our heads, and our hearts to hold oft’ conflicting realities.

Being a strong woman sometimes means not demanding an answer.

Being a strong woman sometimes means demanding an answer.

Being a strong woman means that no matter what the ambiguity is about, that we still speak the truth; that we do not temper our words or our deepest emotions just to make someone else feel comfortable. That we speak kindly, graciously, winsomely – and honestly.

Being a strong woman in the midst of ambiguity means holding on to hope, having faith, trusting that light will yet emerge out of darkness.

And sometimes being a strong woman in the midst of ambiguity means dragging hope up to the surface with our bare hands, clinging to faith with our dying breath, and searching for the damn flashlight so that we can single-handedly blind the universe with our brilliance.

It’s not easy: living in ambiguity. Some days it feels like a battle for which we’re ill-equipped and really don’t want to fight. But…

…this woman IS strong.

And tender. And beautiful. And tenacious. And passionate. And always, always, hope-filled. She is a RENEGADE.

Off to the battle…and to find the flashlight.

Its never black or white..its so much grayer than we ever want to admit. Its ok for a woman to not know and use her best judgement, all of her wisdom and trust her instincts… and then let it all go and trust!
